So Wait - You Mean You’re REALLY Not Dropping Out?

Posted by michaelmee on May 7, 2008

The blogs and news media has been talking about all day long - Why is Clinton pretending she doesn’t have to drop out? What is she trying to get by pretending she is going to stay in?

But this is Hillary Clinton - and she isn’t pretending. She will sink the entire party before she drops out, and as she should have dropped out months ago for the good of the Democrats, she should drop out now, and she won’t. She will bring this as far as the party lets her, and because the party is completely inept, they will let this continue.

Even Nancy Pelosi said the race isn’t over (CNN.com), and Hillary met with the DNC today to explain her campaign viability. Now the right wing has pounced, calling Obama the weaker candidate - and Hillary continues to make things nearly impossible for her own party to get it’s footing.

Can we have another Olbermann special comments yet, please?

Obama’s Vice President

Posted by michaelmee on May 7, 2008

Over at the DailyKos (http://www.dailykos.com), they fowarded the opinion that it wold be unwise for Obama to select Hillary Clinton as his running mate. They suggested other people, such as Bill Richardson, would be a better choice. As they accurately noted, Richardson would put New Mexico into solidified Obama camp.

I’ve been saying for a while that Obama could legitimately win Texas and Nevada, and Richardson would help there as well. If he pulled out these three south western states, the Democrat should take the white house in a landslide this November.

It certainly would be painful to pick Clinton as Obama’s running mate. It would be like a divorced couple trying to get back together after they cheated on each other. But it is not without it’s merrits. The only road bloack Obama will face in the road to the White House is getting all the white moderates that backed Hillary to back him in the general election. Unlike the pundits, I see this as his top issue.

So the choice comes down to whether Obama’s people agree with me, or if they disagree. If they think an Obama/Clinton ticket would easily win, but an Obama/Someone Else tickey might fail - even a slim chance of failure - I’d advise him to go ahead and pick Clinton.

I say that because, there is a lot more the Democrats can lose if they mess this up than the general election. If Obama selects someone other than Clinton, and he fails to get the 30% of Hillary supporters that say they’d rather support McCain, causing Obama to lose - it would implode the entire party. Obama’s supporters would blame the Clintons, and therefore the “white” base of the party. The young voters would turn to third parties and general cynicism. Black voters would question the parties loyalty.

So, what it comes down to is this: Obama has to win the general election. If he can win without Clinton, he should pick someone else. We’ll see if that’s the case.

Hillary Is the Real Life Rick Astley

Posted by michaelmee on May 7, 2008

They said the race would end. Superdelegates would run over to Obama all day today. Clinton would stop talking; she’d make plans to drop out.

So far, they’ve been wrong. Clinton is hanging on by her fingernails like Yoda’s desperate attempt to defeat the emperor in Star Wars Episode III.

I suspect she may never go away, whether it is appropriate for her to be around or not. Where as Rick Astley was played at Shea Stadium in the ultimate rickroll, causing boos and confusion, Hillary Clinton is Hill-rolling the entire Democratic party.

Things are not all bad though. McGovern endorsed Obama and called on Hill to drop out. Drudge Report has a headling declaring Obama as the nominee, and insists superdelegates won’t even meet with Clinton anymore.

I hope to see some progress by the end of the day. I am fatigued by the election. I didn’t even want to blog at all today, but, duty calls.

Maybe we can move on to a new topic soon.

Primary Wrap: Obama “Wins”, but so does Hillary

Posted by michaelmee on May 7, 2008

After a very long and confusing night in which I watched about eight hours of primary coverage (mixed in with the New York Mets tragic loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers), the results finally came in from Indiana at about 1:15 AM EST.

Clinton

Hillary underperformed in both states. Her campaign was, early in the day, suggesting that they came from way behind in Indiana where they were once down twenty points - which is at best, a use of selective information, and at worst an outright lie; I don’t even see any poll in Indiana giving Obama +10 or more let alone twenty. A night of defeat in all respects for the Clintons.

Obama

A smashing in North Carolina where he pulled double the expected line was a huge victory for Obama camp. Having the media networks discuss a possible Indiana loss for Clinton after her acceptance speech was another notch for Obama.

Overall

With Obama’s near win in Indiana, MSNBC as talking about the race as if it were over, and I have to agree. Clinton canceled most of her public events for today, and is most likely in the Clinton Cave making plans to exit gracefully from the race.
